West End Property Portfolio Shaftesbury has been nominated into the Michelin Great Britain and Ireland Guide for achievement amongst its group of 25 restaurants in London’s West End.   The group; which includes the Opera Quarter in Covent Garden, Seven Dials and Fitzrovia had it’s award unveiled in a prestigious virtual ceremony hosted by Davina McCall and Michelin Director Gwendal Poullenec, on 25th January.

Amongst the Awards covered was a new Michelin Green Star as a new category in the Michelin Guide; to show dedication to environmentally sustainable practices in hospitality.  The only restaurant to receive the Award in this category was within the Seven Dials location – Tredwells.  It’s one of only 4 restaurants in London to receive this, as well as within 23 in the UK to have received this forward thinking accolade.  It’s other properties; were within the Michelin Bib Gourmand category, which rewards for recognition of excellent quality in cuisine at more competitive prices.  The Michelin Plate Award is offered for restaurants that have neither a Michelin Star or Bib Gourmand; but however have been listed in the Guide.

Chantelle Nicholson, Chef Patron at Tredwells,  commented: “As a member of the Chef’s manifesto, my passion is to deliver a better food system through everyday actions, whether they are big or small.  Our menu is over 50% plant-based, all our meat is from organic, pasture-fed farms, and we always look to partner with sustainable suppliers.  In addition, we look at reducing waste and recycling where possible, but without ever compromising the experience for customers.  We are thrilled to have been awarded this prestigious accolade from such an important and influential industry institution.”

The Ninth, which is located within the Fitzrovia quarter; is one of its more contemporary restaurants, with Head Chef Tunaka Junaka at the helm, retaining it’s coveted Michelin star. Amongst the other categories represented were Bib Gourmand and Michelin Plates; for which over 20 Shaftesbury restaurants part of the portfolio were within the Bib Gourmand and Michelin plate category.  Those with Bib Gourmand include Salt Yard, Barbary, Volta Do Mar, Palomar, and Bancone.  Whilst it’s other properties within the Michelin Plate category include Heritage, Tredwells, Ember Yard, Lima, Ampeli, Barrica, Dishoom, and Duck and Rice.

Julia Wilkinson, Restaurant Director at Shaftesbury says: “The Michelin Guide remains a respected voice in the industry and we are delighted that Tredwells and Volta Do Mar have received such strong recognition.  Also, that so many of our other tenants are included in the latest Guide after such a challenging year.  Each offers something special to their respective village, and is emblematic of our strategy of finding and supporting the most innovative and exciting concepts and chefs.  We are looking forward to London re-opening soon and people to be able to come out again and enjoy all the culinary delights that London has to offer.”

One of it’s newest premises; Volta Do Mar – a comtemporary Portuguese restaurant within the Opera quarter, won a coveted Bib Gourmand Award.  The restaurant founded by Simon Mullins; previously Director of Salt Yard, was one of the first to receive the Award which recognises excellence in cuisine at competitive prices.

Isabel Almeida da Silva, Co-Founder of Volta Do Mar, said: ” We are extremely honoured and thrilled to have received the Bib Gourmand Award from Michelin.  It is a testament to the incredibly hard work and dedication our whole team has given over the course of a very difficult and challenging last year. We have so much more to show with our restaurant and we cannot wait to reopen and welcome our guests back as soon as possible.”
