A Timely French Favourite Gets Private Treatment

18 March 2017

Ever since it opened in 1927, in the roaring heyday of decadence; L’escargot has entertained many a famous face, since retaining it’s place as a Soho landmark.  Whilst never having managed to earn a place in the guides; this venue has remained an inspiring epicurean eaterie as well as a stage and screen favourite over decades.

Hemingway’s favourite dining space in London; matched by his favoured tipple and dine spot in Paris Les Deux Magots  has had just a bit more or a prestigious dining option added, with the addition of it’s upstairs Private Members Club.

For years, having championed the likes of Wheelers and Kettners its formidable upstairs menu has got just that bit more of panache than the downstairs brasserie menu of lobster bisque, steak tartare, or tournedos rossini.

Upstairs at L’escargot you can quietly tuck into the likes of Lobster with beurre blanc, crab that has equally been dressed opulently and/ or a chateaubriand if you specifically request it.

Whilst the standard downstairs menu evokes brasseries from a grand era, it is good and has always been of a high standard, all be it lacking in terms of choices.  If you like snails you’ll be in seventh heaven with the lashings of garlic butter sizzling away but it’s the tournedos rossini melt in the mouth with a large serving of sauce that really does it justice.

Membership at L’Escargot is just £365 a year to enjoy your regular table and choices with the private treatment you deserve to your taste.
